Cooperation can be complex;
our job is to make it easier.

Index | Interreg Data Exchange

Index is an Interreg Data Exchange platform. It enables programmes using HIT to exchange data earlier in the process than is otherwise possible – as it focuses on application stage data.

By sharing data this way, programmes are able to see how other programmes are tackling shared challenges. They can spot potentials for synergies and cooperation, and facilitate joint actions for events and partner searches within their shared territory.

There are currently three pilots of Index, one in the Baltic Sea Region, one in the Mediterranean and another in the IPA (West Balkans) area. While the Baltic Sea pilot is fully independent, the other two pilots share a common basis, enabling programmes which work in both geographies to join the cooperation.

Where to start

You can find out more about Index in our information sheet.

Due to the expenditure involved in setting up an iteration of the database, Interact is only considering a limited number of pilots at the moment.

Any programme interested in discussing an Index pilot is encouraged to get in touch with Interact, particularly through your Regional Network contact, to help understand if there is appetite from other programmes that share the geography.

Index only works where this willingness to exchange exists, and where HIT templates are followed.

What we are working on

The initial pilot of Index launched in the Baltic Sea in 2022. The second and third pilots are due to come online early in 2024.

Interact is supporting the participating pilot regions explore the use of data.

Interact is also collecting the use cases to demonstrate the effectiveness of providing this tool – to enable real time cooperation and exchange between programmes, particularly in the application and selection stages.

Want to stay up to date

The three pilots for Index are underway and coordinated through a relevant geographic network. Anyone interested in creating a new pilot for Index should get in touch with the project coordinator.

Please note, it is only possible to create a pilot where there are shared geographies and a shared interest in building this cooperation, which may include changing programme management processes to create harmonised information.
