Mediterranean Lab Group: Thematic Pole Maritime Risks
The second thematic pole focuses on how European Territorial Cooperation addresses maritime safety, maritime risks and coastal zone management within programmes and projects.
Since the ERIKA oil spill in 2000, mentality in Europe has changed due to the the establishment of three safety packages (ERIKA I, II and III). A coordinated vision, regarding facing maritime risks, is being promoted throughout the EU, in collaboration with the European Maritime Safety and Surveillance Agencies. On 30 September 2010, the European Commission put forward its proposal for continued financial support to the EU Integrated Maritime Policy, established in 2007, for the period between 2011 and 2013.
The second thematic pole of the Mediterranean aims to highlight key contributions from ETC projects and to identify concrete tools and methods which could be capitalised on and disseminated to other areas in the EU.
