Work With Social Media

On this page we provide some information sources and tips on how social media can be used for useful and successful communication.

As for your overall communication activities, you should also select the tools that are most appropriate for the media. Classic examples include press releases, press conferences, press briefings, open days for the press, opinion editorials or letters to the editor, articles for specialised magazines or press trips.

Today, European Territorial Cooperation programmes are also more and more using the internet and the social media to spread their messages. You can set up blogs, podcasts, or open fanpages on Facebook or Linked-in. The advantage is that your “followers” are definitely interested in your subject matter and that it is a cost-efficient tool. However, not all of your target groups may be using the social media and the sites need regular updating – the worst is to keep them sleeping for a couple of months until everybody has forgotten about them. In addition, the web 2.0 is a fast-changing world and it may be sometimes time-consuming to always keep up with the latest development and trends. You should therefore evaluate thoroughly whether the selected tool will really be an added value in your overall media outreach strategy or if it will just be a waste of time and energy. We therefore recommend that social media should never substitute, but only complement traditional media and tools.
