General Information

Danubeparks is co-financed by the Transnational Programme South East Europe 2007-2013.

Objectives & Activities

In June 2009, the Danube River Network of Protected Areas was established by signing the Declaration of Vienna. As a first step, the partnership expands the cooperation, coordination and consultation while strengthening links between the national administrations of protected areas of Danube riparian countries. These are aiming to enhance nature conservation and wise management of natural and cultural heritage in and beyond the boundaries of protected areas along the Danube River.

Aims of the Network

Based on the principles of the Ramsar Convention and the  convention and cooperation for the protection and sustainable use of the Danube River (Sofia, 1994), the Declaration of Tulcea solidifies the aims of the Network:

  • enhance nature conservation of Danube River Protected Areas
  • promote wise management of the Danube Protected Areas
  • exchange and promote expertise within management
  • improve knowledge of status, economic, social and environmental impacts and the management of the Danube Protected Areas
  • actions for prevention, control and reduction of pollution in the floodplains and wetlands in the Danube basin
  • promote awareness of the international importance of Danube River
  • promote sustainable development
