DG Regio Makes Handbook for SMEs Available
06.03.2009 | Source
The European Commission has released a handbook on Community State aid rules for SMEs which focuses particularly on support for access to finance in the current financial and economic crisis.
The European Commission's Directorate General for Regional Policy has called Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) the "backbone of Europe's economy". In an attempt to help them through the current crisis in the financial and economic sectors and the ensuing squeeze on credit, the Commission has released a new handbook dealing with Community State aid rules for SMEs to help them gain access to important sources of revenue.
This handbook follows in the footsteps of the June 2008 Small Businesses Act for Europe as part of a wider strategy on the part of the European Commission to supports SMEs in Europe.
SMEs are eligible for all aid categories allowed under EU State aid rules and for those categories of aid measures which can also be provided to large undertakings, SMEs benefit from higher aid intensities.
For more information please see the Inforegio website here. To download the handbook, please see the attachment below.
In related news, the Commission has announced plans to fund an "Erasmus" for SMEs. For more on this see the EurActiv website here.
