The Challenge of Climate Change: Natural, Economic and Social Effects on the European Mountain Areas

The Region of Sicily, in the framework of the International Mountain Day, has organised a conference on climate change on 10-11 December 2009 in Castelbuono (Palermo)
The aim of the conference "Climate Change: Natural, Economic and Social Effects of the European Mountain Areas. What Tools of Interventions for the Mediterranean Mountain?" was to promote a better regional, local and national mountain governance and to open a debate on the instruments needed to deal with natural, economic and social challenges as a result of climate change.
At the event participated various representatives of European mountain regions, of the European Institutions and of the main European interregional organisations. They analysed the effects of climate change, the political, legal and financial instruments available to mountain Regions, innovation and employement in mountain areas, and looked at future perspectives.
