Seminar on State Aid

18.02.2010 | Copenhagen, Denmark
Based on the latest research and extensive discussions with both DG Regional Policy and DG Competition, this new seminar offered a practical approach to handling State Aid in European Territorial Cooperation programmes.

The one-day event started with an overview of the background for the State Aid rules and moved on to consider how to identify potential State Aid cases and how to tackle them when they do arise. The event only considered those issues which are most relevant for cooperation programmes, and emphasised the need for a solution-based approach rather than theory.

Intended for staff with some background knowledge of the issues but not experts, the event allowed participants to guide projects and programme management authorities towards taking informed action on State Aid. It also increased staff confidence in identifying real State Aid cases. The seminar included presentations, case studies and many opportunities for discussion and questions. This event will be repeated throughout the year.
