Summary
The City of Vienna, The Ministry of Development, Public Works and Housing in Romania in cooperation with INTERACT Point Vienna/Turku organised the kick-off Conference for the European Territorial Cooperation programmes, in which Romania participates. The programmes launched at Romanian national level are the Cross-Border Cooperation Programmes Romania-Bulgaria, Hungary-Romania, Romania-Serbia, the Transnational Cooperation Programme South-East Europe, as well as the four Interregional Cooperation Programmes INTREREG IV C, URBACT 2007-2013, ESPON 2013 and INTERACT II. This two-day Conference targeted the European Territorial Cooperation authorities and bodies (Managing Authorities, Joint Technical Secretariats, National Contact Points), as well as Romanian potential beneficiaries for these programmes. The Conference objective was to launch the European Territorial Cooperation programmes in Romania. As the first Calls for proposals are expected to be launched by the end of this year and most of the Romanian applicants will participate for the first time in European Territorial Cooperation programmes, it was necessary for them to get accustomed to the principles and rules of the Structural Funds (ERDF) and to the specificities of these projects and programmes. Moreover the Conference provided an opportunity to meet and discuss future partnerships for potential beneficiaries. Romania is the first Member State to have organize such cross-programme event, with more than 160 participants and a combination of training, information and networking sessions, which should offer the guarantee for a successful launch of all programmes. Moray Gilland called the other Member States to follow the path: "Where Romania leads, the others will follow!".
