Transport, communications and accessibility are key issues for the continuing development of the European regions. This importance is reflected in the work of the INTERREG regional cooperation programmes, which fund many projects working with these themes. Furthermore, as programmes prepare for the next period (2007-2013), it is clear that transport and communications are set to become even more important themes and there will be renewed demand for strategic projects.

This raises a number of questions:

• What are the most effective actions taken so far?
• What projects should be developed?
• What are the key weaknesses and challenges that should be addressed in the new period?
• Does the latest research suggest new approaches?
• What impact could European policy have on regional initiatives?

The INTERACT Point Qualification & Transfer together with the ESPON programme organised the INTERREG Transport, Communications and Accessibility Conference to address these questions and more. See the Studies section of this website for themes that will be addressed in future.
