Sharing INTERREG experiences
Cross-border programmes have led the way in European cooperation since the establishment of the INTERREG programmes but they still face a number of challenges. The seminars therefore aimed to address current problems and to look ahead to how the demands of the new programme period can best be met.
The seminars were workshop-based and covered different aspects of programme management such as effective monitoring of programme implementation, ensuring the continued high quality of projects, exchanging experience on administrative systems and financial procedures.

Outcomes of event:
This was the first opportunity for most of the programmes involved to get together and discuss the current status and future expectations and requirements of the programmes. Most programmes face similar challenges but the responses they are adopting vary greatly. A report is now being prepared which will document this information.
As an input to the workshop discussions, four working papers were developed to ask relevant questions and to give an overview of key aspects of programme management, project development and assessment, financial management and communication. These are available.
All of the programmes that participated assessed the seminars very positively. Repeat events in spring 2005 will therefore give more cross-border programmes an opportunity to become involved in such exchanges while follow-up of the first seminars will focus on the best ways of answering the key questions identified.
