Sharing INTERREG experiences
The INTERACT-ESPON seminar on cross-border cooperation in INTERREG projects focused on updates on cross-border regions in Europe and a first European-wide thematic overview on cross-border cooperation. Based on the results of a study commissioned on this topic, current research and practical examples presented at the event, a variety of cross-border situations, barriers and opportunities for development of border regions in Europe were addressed.
Key issues discussed at the seminar included:
- different thematic types of cross-border cooperation projects that have been most effective to overcome the challenges of border regions,
- territorial potentials and comparative advantages of border regions and how can they be best utilised in cooperation projects,
- ideas on how cross-border cooperation could potentially make better use of European-wide territorial research and how future territorial analysis could be targeted to demands in the field of cross-border cooperation.
