The themes of rural-urban partnerships and polycentric urban development are addressed in a wide range of INTERREG projects and activities, from studies and strategies, to partnerships and infrastructure investments. At the conference, a variety of approaches to these concepts was discussed alongside ESPON research findings on territorial developments.

In order to stimulate the debate, initial results of a joint INTERACT-ESPON study on the topic were presented. The particular emphasis was on lessons learned and possible synergies for future activities across all three strands.
